*The axial flow fans. They have advantages of higher efficiency, ease of installation and non-overloading power characteristic. An axial fan is normally used when the flow requirements are high and the pressure demand is low which is the requirement of cooling tower. Axial fan blades are generally aerofoil in cross-section. The blade can be fixed in position or it can rotate around its longitudinal axis. The angle of the blade to the airflow, or blade pitch, can be fixed or adjustable. Changing the blade angle, or pitch, is one of the major advantages of an axial fan. Small blade pitch angles produce lower flows while increasing the pitch produces higher flow.

Basically there are 2 types of cooling towers in which fans are used. 1. Forced Draft 2. Induced Draft In Forced draft cooling towers, fans are used at the bottom of the tower while in Indced draft cooling towers, fans are used at the top of the tower. In cooling towers always AXIAL FANS are used because if we use centrifugal, they will rotate air inside the tower and it will take longer time to exit the tower.
