Exhaust fan math problem?
Okay, I'm embarrassed to say this, but I need help with a math problem. I think I'm just confused about what the information is saying in order to solve the problem, so if someone can either confirm or correct my thinking, I think I can go from there. Here's the problem Most bathroom exhaust fans can suck out 400 to 1000 cubic feet of air every minute CFM . How much is that? Imagine a basketball about one cubic foot of air being sucked out of the inside of the school and squirted out the roof. Now imagine 800 basketballs sucked out EVERY MINUTE The expensive, heated air going out is replaced under negative pressure with frigid outside air through cracks around doors, windows, walls, etc. MATH PROBLEM Eight classrooms on a hall each have 900 square feet with 9 foot ceilings. The hallways and other rooms on the hall equal another 1200 square feet with the same ceiling height. How long will it take one 800 CFM restroom fan to pull out all the warm air from the whole hall? HINT before you can watch your favorite movie Would I find the volume of the 8 classrooms plus the additional hallway volume and then divide it by 800 since the fan pulls out that many cubic feet of air every minute? I would get 94.5 minutes about the length of a movie .
